SUMMARY:CryoZip: An Efficient Cryogenic Compressor for Quantum Error Corre
 ction Syndromes
DESCRIPTION:Guanchen Tao, Alexander Knapen, Jacob Mack, Gokul Subramanian
Ravi, and Qirui Zhang (University of Michigan); Mehdi Saligane (Brown Univ
ersity); and Dennis Sylvester (University of Michigan)\n\nScaling fault-to
lerant quantum computing is increasingly constrained by the limited bandwi
dth and power budget across the 4\,K-room temperature (RT) interface. We p
resent CryoZip, a cross-layer cryogenic compression framework that coopera
tes with an lightweight in-house quantum error correction (QEC) predecoder
s to reduce syndrome transmission under realistic, circuit-level noise. Cr
yoZip targets sparse syndrome vectors with a sliding-window compression ar
chitecture sized under strict decoding-latency constraints to maximize ene
rgy efficiency. We implement and evaluate the design in 22\,nm FDSOI chara
cterized at 4\,K, using vector-based power, performance, and area analysis
to obtain realistic hardware data. CryoZip achieves up to 48.3$\times$ co
 mpression---1.81$\times$ higher than state-of-the-art compressors---across
various QEC codes; when paired with the predecoder it yields over 14,238.
86$\times$ bandwidth reduction (48.3$\times$ without predecoding), and del
ivers 3.97-25.74$\times$ energy savings for cryo-to-RT links alone, rising
to 42.19$\times$ when accounting for predecoding and realistic QEC interf
 ace overheads.\n\nTopics: Quantum\n\nTrack: DES6. Quantum Computing, Syste
