The Power Grid Reuse Process
DescriptionPhysical Design construction flows take an enormous amount of time to run. This runtime directly effects project turn-around-time as well as an engineers ability to efficiently iterate on some design. How can we reduce flow runtime? Which steps within the physical design construction flow are significant in terms of frequency, runtime, and can be effectively redesigned for runtime savings? One step that is frequently run, towards the beginning of the physical design construction flow, is power grid generation. Power grid generation is a deterministic, repetitive process, that can be redesigned for huge runtime savings. Runtime in power grid generation can be substantially reduced in repeated iterations of the same design by saving out and reloading the power grid rather than regenerating every iteration.
